How This Tool Works

Enter your room's length, width, and wall height. Optionally include the ceiling, and adjust the waste factor for your cutting needs.

Formula & Method

Wall area = room perimeter × wall height. If including the ceiling, add room length × width. Sheets needed = (total area × (1 + waste%)) ÷ 32 sq ft per standard 4×8 sheet.

Example Calculation

A 12×10 ft room with 8 ft walls (352 sq ft of wall) plus a 120 sq ft ceiling totals 472 sq ft. With 10% waste, that's about 17 sheets of drywall.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size are standard drywall sheets?+

Most residential drywall sheets are 4×8 ft (32 sq ft), though 4×12 ft sheets are also common for larger walls with fewer seams.

Should I subtract doors and windows?+

For a quick estimate, skip small deductions since offcuts are often reused elsewhere. For precise ordering on a large job, measure openings and subtract their area.

Do I need different drywall for ceilings?+

Ceilings often use slightly thicker or sag-resistant drywall, especially over long spans — check your local building code and joist spacing.
